Palmer Chiropractic Techniques

Dr. Groves is a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic and utilizes the core techniques that are taught there.  These include Gonstead, Diversified, Thompson Drop, Toggle-Recoil, and Webster Technique.

Gonstead - Developed by Clarence Gonstead.  Utilizes x-ray and instrumentation to restore balance to the structure by leveling the pelvis and spinal bones.

Diversified - The most commonly used chiropractic technique.  It uses quick, light thrusts which are meant to restore proper motion and position of the vertebrae.

Thompson Drop - Dr. J. Clay Thompson developed this technique with the help of specialized tables with dropping mechanisms that allow impulses to be much faster and lighter than other adjusting techniques.  This technique is especially gentle and effective.

Toggle-Recoil - Convinced that the upper cervical spine was the key to unlocking better health, B.J. Palmer (son of D.D.) developed a highly specific technique to realign the top two vertebrae.  This is one of the most highly researched techniques in chiropractic history.

Webster Technique - Dr. Larry Webster discovered a pattern in pregnant women that was causing low back and pelvic pain.  His adjusting technique has helped many babies avoid Caesarian births by correcting breach presentations within 24 hours of treatment.  This technique uses a combination of adjusting and soft tissue work to restore balance to the pelvis.

Other Techniques Utilized

Cox Flexion Distraction - Developed by James Cox, DC DACBR in the early 1960s.  This is a gentle, rhythmic technique that manipulates the joints with slow stretching of the lower back.  It is fantastic for patient with excessive arthritis and those with

Activator Technique - Arlan Fuhr, DC developed this technique which uses a special handheld adjusting device.  This technique is helpful for almost every single joint in the body, including the larger knees and hips.  It's great for those who don't like the 'hands-on' approach because it's so gentle, you almost can't feel it.  The Activator is great for patients who have had surgery in the spine or those with inflammatory diseases.
